Frequently Asked Questions
- 01No. Despite our name, MensPsych works with people of all genders. We are committed to inclusive, accessible care and welcome individuals regardless of gender, sexuality, culture, background, ability, or age.
- 02Yes- Age 15 and up. If your child is younger than 15 years of age, please submit an equiry form and we will be in touch.
- 03No referral is required to book an appointment. However, a GP referral and Mental Health Care Plan are required if you wish to claim Medicare rebates.
- 04Yes. Medicare allows you to use your current MHCP with any provider of your choice, including MensPsych. You are not required to see the practitioner originally recommended by your GP. We do encourage you to keep your GP informed, as they play an important role in your overall care.
- 05At times, clinicians may be fully booked in advance. You can: Add your availability to our Zanda booking system Join the waitlist for your preferred clinician You will be contacted as soon as a suitable appointment becomes available.
- 06We know stuff happens!! As soon as you know you can't make your session time, give us a call or jump on line to reschedule your time: We need 48 hours / 2 business days notice to re book your session time. Cancellations within the 48hrs may incur a cancellation fee if we can not fill your cancelled spot.
- 07Many private health funds offer rebates for psychology services under Extras cover. Rebates vary between insurers and policies. We recommend contacting your insurer directly to confirm: Whether psychology is covered The rebate amount Any annual or per-session caps We can provide a tax invoice for claiming purposes.
- 08Yes. Funding may be available through: NDIS WorkCover Transport Accident Commission (TAC) Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Please contact us to confirm eligibility and referral requirements before booking.
- 09Please follow your usual process for preparing or reviewing a Mental Health Care Plan. Referrals can be addressed to: MensPsych 271 The Parade Beulah Park SA 5067 Phone: 08 7523 4597 Fax: 08 8490 5560 Patients can then contact our clinic directly to book an appointment and provide their MHCP.
- 10Yes — all of our clinicians offer Telehealth sessions. Sessions are delivered via secure video-conferencing software that meets strict privacy and confidentiality standards. Telehealth allows greater flexibility and enables you to attend sessions from a location of your choice.
- 11No. Telehealth sessions are billed at the same rate as standard consultations. Medicare and most private health funds provide rebates for Telehealth services. Please note that not all clinicians offer Telehealth as an initial appointment — contact us to check availability.
- 12Our fees are aligned with the Australian Psychological Society (APS) National Standards for Private Practice. Current fees can be found on our booking page: click here Some appointments (e.g. weekends or urgent last-minute bookings) may incur a surcharge of up to $20. Any additional fees will be clearly communicated at the time of booking. For full details, please visit our bookings page.
- 13No. MensPsych is a private practice and does not offer bulk billing. All fees are payable at the time of the appointment. If cost is a barrier, we are happy to help you find alternative bulk-billing services.
- 14You may be eligible for Medicare rebates if you have a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) prepared by your GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician. Medicare rebates may apply for people experiencing: Mental health conditions Chronic medical conditions Disability-related mental health concerns Your GP can advise whether you are eligible.
- 15The difference primarily reflects Medicare classifications and rebate structures. Clinical psychologists complete additional specialist training and may work more frequently with complex or severe presentations. This is why Medicare rebates — and therefore fees — differ.
