Our Practice
Men are at high risk of experiencing mental health challenges but often don't seek support. Our Adelaide clinic focuses on providing effective outpatient, individualised, psychological care for adolescent boys and men. We treat a range of mental health disorders and provide a neutral and comfortable environment for individuals, families, and couples.
Our Treatment
We help clients address their mental health challenges and recognise unhelpful patterns of behaviour. We achieve this by listening to your concerns, and customising a treatment plan for you.

Our Team
Dr Ian Zajac is a Clinical Psychologist and is the Director of MensPsych. He is passionate about Men's mental health and has worked and trained across a variety of settings.
Ian works with clients to address a broad range of issues including depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, eating disorders, sexual trauma, substance use and addiction. He also works with clients experiencing adjustment difficulties as a result of changes in employment, relationship status and physical health (such as a diagnosis of cancer).
Lachlan McLaren is a Registered Psychologist who has been practicing since 2011. He is committed to helping others with their mental health and has experience working within clinical and organisational settings.
Lachlan has a particular interest in addressing anxiety disorders, mood disorders (such as depression), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), sleep problems, relationship concerns, general life difficulties, stress, and substance use problems. In addition to seeing adults, he also works with adolescents aged 15 years and over

Depression & Anxiety
Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives. Through counselling and treatment, we are able to help you recover your motivation, change perspective, and reconnect with what matters to you.
Trauma & PTSD
Lots of people experience symptoms linked with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are some of the things that can linger after experiencing traumatic events. We can help you overcome these symptoms using evidence-based treatment methods.
Addiction
Addictions are common in men. These are often long-standing problems that result from ongoing stress, trauma and other mental health issues. Addictive behaviours provide short-term relief but have long-term consequences. We can help you to break the cycle.
Anger
Do you have a quick temper? We all get angry at times but it can often result in us acting inappropriately towards others. Treatment for anger issues helps individuals identify their triggers and problematic behaviour, and develop more helpful responses to build a meaningful life.

What's the cost?Consultations last 50-minutes and are charged at the following rates. These rates are subject to change. Dr Ian Zajac: $250 per session (-$141.85 Medicare Rebate with a valid referral, gap fee of $108.15) Lachlan McLaren: $220 per session (-$96.65 Medicare Rebate with a valid referral, gap fee of $123.35)

Will Medicare fund my sessions?If you feel that you are experiencing mental health difficulties, visit your GP to discuss a Mental Health Care Plan. Once you have this, you may be eligible for a medicare rebate to support your consultations.

Can I use my Private Health benefits?Most private health funds provide support to see a Psychologist. If you have private health insurance, you should ask your insurer directly whether they will provide funding, and how much, for your sessions.

Do you offer Telehealth services?Short answer: YES!!! Long answer: All of our sessions are conducted through video-conferencing software which meets strict HIPAA privacy and confidentiality policies. Telehealth is a new way of delivering health care. It provides the client and clinician more flexibility with regards to when they schedule appointments. Video-consultations also provide you the option to join the meeting from a place of your choice, without having to physically attend a clinic. Medicare may provide rebates for Telehealth services, as do most private health funds. Please contact us for more information.

Do you only see Males?Absolutely Not! MensPsych does not discriminate. We work with individuals from all walks of life. Don't let the name of our practice get in the way of engaging with our service!

Can I use my current Mental Health Care Plan at your clinic?Yes! Medicare allows patients to use their current referral for psychological services at the provider of their choice (such as MensPsych). You are not required to see the practitioner that your GP suggests. You may even find that after a few sessions with that provider, you are not getting what you need and wish to change. Of course, we would encourage you to visit your GP and discuss you intentions. They are a critical part of your mental health care.

I'm a GP, how can I refer to your service?"Follow your normal procedures for the preparation, or review, of a Mental Health Care Plan. On completion, make the referral out to: MensPsych 271 The Parade, Beulah Park, 5067 PH: 08 7523 4597 FAX: 08 8490 5560 Your patient can then contact our clinic directly on to make an appointment, and provide a copy of their MHCP.
